Profit from a Battery Storage Partnership
Without effective battery storage, using renewable energy would be much harder. Large batteries enable us to harvest sunlight when it’s available but deliver energy all year round.
Creating energy is only part of the challenge. We also need effective methods of storing energy. Our battery facilities enable us to store energy and then provide it when needed.
Why battery storage?
All the energy produced by solar panels needs to be transferred somewhere or be lost. Often the National Grid does not need all the energy produced by a solar farm, so without a Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) a lot of that energy would be wasted.
The large batteries also help to increase the reliability of renewable energy. Solar panels depend on sunlight, but this is unavailable during the night and cloudy days. BESS enable solar farms to provide the National Grid with energy even on days with little sunlight.
How does it work?
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) enable energy from solar farms to be stored and distributed to where it's needed most in the network. Lithium-ion batteries are the main type of storage technology. This is the same type of battery found in mobile phones and electric cars, but on a much larger scale.
With improvements in technology, BESS is becoming even more effective. In 2022, the UK operational capacity of BESS increased by almost 800MWh, which is the largest annual increase so far.
What are the benefits?
Battery storage technology means more homes and businesses can be powered by green energy. Even on cloudy days, energy harnessed from solar farms can be sent across the National Grid. This increases the value of renewable energy and could help to reduce costs for consumers.
FAQs
Interested in leasing your land but need to know more? Below are answers to the most common questions.
-
We usually seek a 40-year lease term. This provides a secure, long-term, secure passive income for landowners and their future generations.
-
It depends. Many factors impact the price but solar farms typically receive £800-£1,000 per acre every year. Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) rents are around £1,500-£2000/MW per year.
-
Once planning permission is granted and we enter into the lease to start site construction. This is usually 12 months before the project becomes fully operational.
-
We usually allow for a 12 month construction period, but they are often shorter.
-
You can either enter into a new lease to continue your passive income, or have the land returned to its former agricultural state. If you choose the second option, all infrastructure is removed and recycled on your behalf.
-
It depends on the solar farm, but most of our projects produce between 15MW and 49.9MW. This is enough to power 5,000-20,000 homes.
